Where to Point Your Arrow

A couple of weeks back, we handed out “Momentum Prayer Arrows.”  We’ll have extras Sunday if you don’t have them.  They’re sticky notes; ready to be placed anywhere you need a reminder to pray.

The point was to get each of us praying about where our generosity is going.  Generosity is about names, and faces, and a vision for what God wants for this world.  A building will be nice, but it’s the people part that really drives us forward.

I’ve found myself praying for individuals by name – taking an arrow for each person I see God’s Momentum in, writing that on an arrow, and praying that God would make us a church that carries their momentum further toward Jesus.  These arrows are on my bathroom mirror.

I’ve also been praying for the city as a whole; that our everyday circle’s would reach people in everyday life who haven’t thought of “going to church.”  I’ve prayed that our new facility would be a congregating point for new relationships to happen.  I’ve prayed that this city would get a vision for the kingdom of God by the way we live and love among them.  These arrows are on my desk at home.

I’ve prayed for our church – that wherever we’d go we’d go there together.  I’ve prayed for faith and faithfulness, for multiplying leaders, and that we’d teach each other the good news of Jesus by our love.

As we approach commitment Sunday this weekend, don’t just be praying about how much you’ll commit financially to this two-year journey.  Pray about why you’re giving what you are; and who you’re giving it for.  Write that on a prayer arrow and bring it with you… we’ll have extras available.

We always look back on this weekend as defining moment in the life of our church.  Let’s remember why we chose to be uncommonly generous.
